Getting visible: unconventional ideas that prioritize safety and intimacy
One of my previous clients and longtime mentors recently created a private newsletter for select friends, clients, and colleagues.
I always prioritize reading this person’s newsletter, but when I received the first edition of this private one, I opened it with an enthusiasm that rivaled how quickly I’ll say yes to a sweet, gluten-free treat.
The more I thought about this space that she had created, the more I began brainstorming other ways that entrepreneurs and authors had created safe, intimate spaces for visibility.
There are so many examples of non-paid ways to connect more intimately from my network.
Some include:
Colleagues like Laura Sprinkle and Deanna Seymour host private Zoom parties.
Another one of my mentors, Alexia Vernon, hosts corporate roundtable discussions.
Tiffany Han created a private podcast series called Making Things Happen years ago that I still think about today.
Sean McMullin chose an unconventional way to connect through audio with his “Dial-a-Sean” dial-in phone tree.
Regularly showing up to a peer mastermind (I’ve been in several over the past decade and they continue to be a deep source of joy and reflection; s/o to India Jackson, Hanneke Antonelli, Jenn Walker Wall, Nicole Otchy, and Nicole Jackson Miller)
My project of creating a family and friends cookbook (This has created connection and generated storytelling in ways I could have never expected.)
Maybe pitching for mainstream media feels like it would push against the edges of your capacity in an unsustainable way. Or perhaps attending free-for-all networking events – even the values-aligned ones! – would be asking too much of you right now.
If that’s the case, using one of the methods above to amplify your visibility in a way that feels safe to you (and your nervous system) is more than an option on the table – it’s potentially more meaningful, more fun, and in greater alignment with your values.
Do you have other examples of intimate spaces for connection and visibility? I would love to hear about them below!
